Dosayan
Dosayan is a song from the Kalinga people of the Cordillera region, Northern Philippines. The word “dosayan” refers to the “act of reclining on a wooden surface, when say, a person feels introspective (Arnel Banasan). This particular version of Dosayan is addressed to Kabuniyan, Creator-Skygod to the Kalinga people. It was composed and taught to Grace Nono by Kalinga singer Arnel Banasan. Golpiadu Makimallo
Golpiadu comes from the Spanish word “golpe” which means “blow,” in this context, the singer’s first blow, prayer, greeting, to begin the rendition of a “verso” or chant in meter and rhyme. “Makimallo” comes from the root word “allo” which means “benevolence;” in this case, the act of imploring and acknowledging God’s benevolence. This piece is inspired by the traditions of the Itawit and Ibanag people of Cagayan province, Northern Luzon. Infrormants: Florentino Banggayan, Prof. Pedro Abraham, and Sis. Rosario Battung. Hol Doyon Kuy D’wata or “let us praise the Creator,” is a song of praise for D’wata, Supreme Creator to the T’boli of South Cotabato, Southern Philippines. With music composed by Gadu Ugal, its texts are an adaptation of the Bible’s Psalm 150. Additional Tagalog lyrics and music by Grace Nono.
